New temporary exhibition at the D-Day Museum
New temporary exhibition: ‘The Normandy and Provence Landings: The Sea, Key to Victory’
The D-Day Museum in Arromanches-les-Bains presents its new outdoor temporary exhibition. Its title is ‘The Normandy and Provence Landings: The Sea, Key to Victory’.
It is located in the Jardin des Pins, behind the museum. This open-air exhibition is open now and runs until 2 November 2026.
It offers a fresh perspective on Operations Overlord and Dragoon. It highlights a key aspect of the Liberation: the decisive role of the sea in the success of the 1944 landings.
From the English Channel to the Mediterranean, the sea became a strategic interface. It enabled the transport of men, vehicles, ammunition and supplies.
Comprising 10 triptychs, the exhibition helps visitors understand the scale of these military operations. On 6 June 1944, more than 156,000 men landed on the Normandy coast as part of Operation Overlord.
Forty days later, the Allies launched a second operation in France. It took place in Provence and was named Dragoon. These two landings had a common objective: to liberate French territory. They were also intended to enable the Allied forces that had landed in the north and south to link up. This advance then paved the way towards Germany.
Naval strategy, tactical organisation, logistics and troop transport are at the heart of the exhibition. The exhibition also highlights the contribution of French sailors. They played a significant role during these operations.
Presented in a unique setting that blends remembrance, heritage and the great outdoors, this exhibition is accessible to all. It offers visitors the chance to rediscover a crucial chapter in the history of the Second World War. It also demonstrates why control of the seas was one of the keys to the Allied victory.
The D-Day Museum extends its warmest thanks to Agelia. They assisted with the graphic design, the printing of the panels and their installation on site.
